  • July 25, 2009 “WINTHROP DAY” CELEBRATED AT SUFFOLK DOWNS
  • November 28, 2008 (Day after Thanksgiving) Open house At Katyy's Youth Center
  • September 17, 2008 - A few Coalition members will be attending The Mass Forum for Creating Healthier Communities. This is a commitment that the members will attend once a month for the next nine months.
  • It's objective is to help community teams and individuals an extended opportunity to enhance skills and learn new stratgies to create healthier , safer communities. The new participants for the forum are the second group from Winthrop CASA to attend.
  • August 22 , 2008 - Coalition Meeting at 10 a.m. at the Winthrop Senior Center, 45 Harvard St., Winthrop, MA.  This meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend.  The agenda will be published and available online one week prior to the meeting.      
  • June 13, 2008 - Coalition Meeting at 10 a.m. at the Winthrop Senior Center, 45 Harvard St., Winthrop, MA.  This meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend.  The agenda will be published and available online one week prior to the meeting.            
  • June 10, 2008 - Drug and Alcohol Awareness Forum for grades 9-11 at Winthrop High School. A program will be presented to the students that will include a short film and speakers from the Meridian House in East Boston.  Lunch will be served afterward in the cafeteria.

  • Summer 2008-Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program through the American Red Cross in Cambridge. Eight slots are available and information about participating in this program may be obtained from Gail Conlon at gconlon@winthrop.k12.ma.us or Jim Burke at jburke@winthrop.k12.ma.us.  You must be at least 16 years of age to be eligible for this program. Date to be announced.

  • June 29, 2008-Family Fun Night at Miller Field under the Tent!  Free Food, Music, Games, Raffles, Fun, and More!  Enter to Win a Wii Video Game System!!!!!!!!!!  Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.  Sponsored by CASA, 21st Century Community Learning Center, Parks and Recreation, the Winthrop Senior Center and CASASTART.

  • Summer 2008-Summer Youth Program. Parks and Recreation, 21st Century Community Learning Center, and CASA will be hosting a youth/teen program for children 12-15 years old.  The starting date is July 8. The group will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10-3 p.m.  There will be tutoring help for Math and English summer packets, community service projects under the direction of youth counselors, and a day of fun on Thursday for all the participants who work at least x per week.

  • Summer 2008-Summer basketball league.  CASA will be sponsoring 2 basketball teams for this year’s summer league program.  Interested participants may contact pmilano@town.winthrop.ma.us for more information.

  • Summer 2008-Drug Task Force.  CASA, along with the Winthrop Police Department, and the Regional Center for Healthy Communities will be convening a Drug Task Force in Winthrop to discuss the issue of substance abuse in our community as it affects all members of our town.  A series of 3-4 meetings will be held involving 12-15 participants from all neighborhoods and sectors of Winthrop and priorities will be identified, plans made to address the issues, timelines, persons responsible, and results expected.  Follow up meetings will be held to review progress. Participants will receive a stipend for attending all of the planned meetings.

  • Fall 2008-Drug Task Force. CASA, along with the Winthrop Police Department, and the Regional Center for Healthy Communities will be convening a Drug Task Force in Winthrop to discuss the issue of substance abuse in our community as it affects all members of our town. A series of 3-4 meetings will be held, beginning in September, involving 12-15 participants from the police, school department, youth, parents, and CASA to identify priorities, make plans to address issues, develop a timeline, persons responsible for overseeing the plans, and determine the results and progress. Participants will receive a stipend for attending all of the plannned meetings.

  • November 6-8, 2008-Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth Conference in Minneapolis.  CASA will be offering to help offset the cost of youth interested in attending this asset-based youth leadership program in Minneapolis, home base for Search Institute.  Details about the conference can be viewed at www.search-institute.org.
